Refugee Action provides a 24-hour national press office service, responding to the media nationally and in the regions. Our small Communications Team also works pro-actively to promote the work and views of the agency and to better inform public debate on asylum. We are especially committed to profiling refugee voices and supporting individual asylum seekers and refugees to tell their stories. We also campaign for the rights of refugees and support the agency to lobby for change at both national and regional levels.

Each year the Communications Team handles approximately 1,400 media inquiries, issues an average of 30 press releases and statements, and generates more than 300 press articles.

As a grassroots agency we are committed to ensuring our clients have a voice in matters that affect them. We also seek to place the work of Refugee Action and the voices of our clients at the centre of mainstream debate and are we committed to working in partnership with journalists to achieve this, within the demands of a 24-hour news environment.

However, we also recognise that our clients are sometimes vulnerable people whose lives are in transition.  To support and protect our clients, Refugee Action follows a rigorous protocol of informed consent and we will always put the best interests of our clients first.
