Sunrise

Helping new refugees build new lives

Sunrise aims to help refugees who have recently been granted status integrate into the UK. Refugees who choose to use the service are supported by a Sunrise caseworker for up to one year after being granted status.

Sunrise is offered to asylum seekers awarded refugee status and leave to remain, Humanitarian Protection or Discretionary Leave who were living in Manchester or Salford Local Authority or in M16, when they received a positive decision. Clients must also contact the service within three months of the date that they were granted status.

sunrise client and caseworkerClients are assigned a caseworker as soon as possible after they receive a positive decision on their asylum claim.  The caseworker works with the client to complete a Personal Integration Plan (PIP), designed to help refugees identify their aspirations and plan how they will work towards these over the coming months/years. It covers areas such as housing, benefits, employment, education and health.  Clients return to see their Refugee Action caseworker at regular 3, 6, 9, and 12-month appointments to review their PIP and gain further advice/information.

The advocates accompany clients and help them to access local services such as homelessness, Job Centre Plus, English language classes (ESOL), GP and advice agencies.

Clients can phone the Refugee Action Freephone Help line 0800 9172719 (not free from mobiles) or their caseworker between appointments.
